The Renowned Musician Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a considerable total for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The single blends a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the initiative have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These resources will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all making this cause better known and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
