The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
