The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season already in development—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a good idea for a superior concept. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
