Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
