Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
