Fans Call for Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who leaped a barrier and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to be present on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account contains clips of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further response on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals called for online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of last year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, winning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
